Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, provides mental health services to young people aged 15-25 (soon to be 12-25) and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.
The Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings including the Parkville, Malmsbury and Cherry Creek sites.
Your new role:
This key leadership position will oversee the management of the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. The MHU staffing model will include Orygen nursing staff working alongside Youth Justice staff to support young people who are admitted on a voluntary basis. In this role, you will also:
- Develop and implement an embedded a model of care and commission the new unit once it opens
- Develop a multidisciplinary team, i.e. recruit, orient, line manage, roster, budget, manager facility and infrastructure, and other operational tasks
- Work as part of the senior leadership team, and be responsible for the implementation and delivery of high quality evidence based care to young people across a range of complex mental ill health
- Adhere to a philosophy of least restrictive intervention service delivery, that is recovery focused and young person centred
- Implement co-design within the service, including facilitating and supporting participation in research and evaluation expanding the evidence base within the service
About you:
- Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
- Demonstrated experience in as a NUM or Team Leader, including leadership and operational management of a mental health unit, risk management, human resource management and workforce planning
- Demonstrated commitment to the recovery approach in mental health treatment and support, with a focus on working collaboratively with consumers and carers to promote self-determination and enable progress towards reaching consumers personal recovery goals
- Comprehensive clinical expertise to initiate and lead evidence-based nursing practice in the care delivery to consumers with complex mental health needs
- Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable
