The opportunity

This role (six-seven-month maternity backfill fixed term contract commencing in late-May/early June 2025) is based mainly in Chatswood with hybrid work from home options available for skilled and dynamic policy people. We will consider fully remote applicants for certain locations or consider those looking for part-time roles for a job share arrangement.

You will undertake policy development and advocacy activities in a range of policy areas such as the aged care, rural and remote health and other areas as needs arise. You will research and write submissions and position statements, research new opportunities, and build great relationships with key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for reviewing and creating policies, guidelines and resources for our members on a range of subjects and provide timely accurate advice to our members.

About you

You are a self-driven problem solver who thrives on the challenge of representation and persuasion. You have excellent communication skills. Your outgoing personality helps you build and manage effective relationships with key industry stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following required skills:

  • Analytical thinking. Ability to identify and analyse situations and/or issues and consider options.
  • Experience in policy analysis and development – e.g. the preparation of reports, briefing papers, advocacy statements and submissions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare and the associated government, regulatory or legislative environments.
  • Experience in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, including with government agencies, clinicians and other industry bodies.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop resources, articles, and/or present information.
  • Proven organisational/planning skills. The ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Self-driven - the ability to work independently while relating to a broader team.
  • Resilience. The ability to handle difficult situations or change with maturity.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with or managing Committees and steering groups.
  • Understanding of clinical evidence and research to inform policy and guideline development activities.
