The team

The Information Security Unit consists of a specialised team of subject-matter experts dedicated to protecting public sector information and information systems. This unit is responsible for delivering the Victorian Protective Data Security Framework (VPDSF) and Standards (VPDSS), developing policy and providing practical information security advice to the Victorian Public Sector. The unit also assists with reviews, audits and information security assurance activities.

Key responsibilities of the role

The role of the Senior Business Engagement Officer includes managing a broad stakeholder base, driving proactive business engagement, providing practical advice to Victorian public sector agencies on information security issues, undertaking research, as well as analysing and assisting in the development of policy. The Senior Business Engagement Officer may also be called on to assist with assurance activities of the OVIC.

Key skills and attributes

  • Proven effective interpersonal skills (e.g., experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels, seeking to understand needs and motivations of others, establishing trust by providing information and decisions in a considered and discrete manner).
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills (e.g. ensuring information is clearly and confidently conveyed, responses effectively address matters at hand in a tactful, respectful, yet firm manner).
  • Comprehensive experience in the production of material for use in a variety of publications and communication mediums (e.g. creating / delivering training and awareness material, assisting in the development of resources).
  • Exposure to and/or experience in information security.
  • A relevant undergraduate or postgraduate tertiary qualification, or relevant experience in Information Security, or stakeholder engagement and communications.

 Security cleared position

Due to the nature of OVIC's work, you must successfully obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance following your appointment and be an Australian citizen.
