ABOUT YOUR ORGANISATION

The Australian BPD Foundation is a Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisation, registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

People living with borderline personality disorder (BPD) (with or without trauma) experience high levels of stigma and discrimination mainly from within the mental health system itself. The Foundation, launched in 2013 is dedicated to getting the past out of the present by dispelling the myths and negative culture that has developed around BPD.

We aim to create a more realistic culture of hope and optimism based on the reality that with access to appropriate treatment and support, the prognosis is positive! People can and do recover and lead meaningful and creative lives.

VISION: People living with BPD, personality difficulties and complex trauma can access appropriate and optimistic treatment and support for themselves and their families /carers.

MISSION: To advocate for systemic change and enable a positive culture that supports the recovery and wellbeing of people with BPD (with or without experiences of complex trauma) and their families/carers.

PURPOSE: To bring together people with lived experience, carers, health and mental health researchers, clinicians and workers to advocate for people with BPD (with or without experiences of complex trauma).) to access equitable evidence-based treatment and support wherever and whoever they are.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Chief Executive Officer provides leadership within the Australian BPD Foundation in the areas of projects, organisational strategic direction, culture, systemic advocacy, governance, and business growth.

Externally, the Chief Executive Officer actively develops strategic partnerships with stakeholders and influencers.
They will lead the foundation to fulfil its vision, mission, purpose, and values, ensuring ongoing growth and viability.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing a multi-year strategic plan in partnership with the Board of Directors, establishing and reporting on annual goals, plans and objectives.

ABOUT YOU

Essential

  • Experience in a Chief Executive Office position (or similar) position and Board support experience.
  • A tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent expertise in a relevant human service discipline such as social work, psychology and/or community work or related field.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide overall organisational leadership -- a leader who will collaborate with the Directors to shape and grow the aims, vision, mission, and purpose of the Australian BPD Foundation.
  • Demonstrated experience and high-level ability to form and maintain successful stakeholder partnerships that can be leveraged to help the Foundation achieve strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and hold accountability for strategic outcomes at a high level.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and secure grants, fee-for-service and philanthropic investments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing projects from idea to completion (including evaluation), with great attention to detail.
  • Strong planning, project management and organisational skills, including establishing priorities, managing time well and delivering quality work within tight deadlines.
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to work through potential areas of conflict.
  • Computer literacy, including ability to use Microsoft Office 365 programs and some online programs eg Mailchimp.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organisational and financial management skills
  • Excellent time management skills, demonstrating a capacity to organise, prioritise, plan, delegate and deliver.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, motivate and train team members, to establish priorities, provide a high level of effective team management and to promote a positive and inclusive work culture.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing reports, submissions, grants, and tenders and negotiating with governments and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the purpose and values of the Australian BPD Foundation.

Desirable:

  • A demonstrated practice experience, knowledge and expertise working within the mental health sector.
  • Relevant lived experience of mental distress or supporting a person living with mental distress.
  • Innovative and creative and able to develop ‘out of the box’ ideas.
  • Experience in co-design – bringing the multiple layers of expertise to various projects including innovation, design, project development, operation and evaluation.

This is an ideal role for someone who predominantly prefers to work from home with flexible hours.

Melbourne-based is preferred; however interstate applications will be considered. There is a requirement to attend some in person meetings or events.
