The purpose of the Case Worker role is to ensure that PCWA is providing comprehensive support and guidance to refugees, helping them navigate the resettlement process and integrate into their new communities and to coordinate the activities of volunteers and other support services who work with refugees.

An initial focus of this role will be to work collaboratively with existing refugees and volunteers and develop processes for volunteers working with refugees to ensure that they are working to an evidence-based, best practice service model and achieving the desired outcomes.

The role will include ongoing support and development of volunteers and the handling of the more complex cases when they arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support for a team of volunteers who work with refugees.

  • Identify, develop and oversee needed processes for volunteers who work with refugees, including for example:

    • Intake assessments and development of individualised case plans,

    • Identification and escalation of critical cases,

    • Maintaining accurate records and reports,

    • Housing, employment, and education placements,

    • Facilitating access to medical and mental health services.

  • Offer crisis intervention and counselling as needed.

  • Collaborate with community organisations and stakeholders to provide services.

  • Provide cultural orientation and advice on local customs and norms.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations from CALD background.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective case management to clients in the areas of settlement, community health and related areas.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in cross cultural communication, client advocacy skills and liaison with relevant stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Arabic (language spoken by refugees).
  • Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of local resources and community networks.
  • Knowledge of processes for successful conduct of volunteers working with refugees.
  • A current valid Working with Children Check (Employee).
  • A current valid police check (within a 6 Months period).
  • Car and driver’s license.
  • ABN Required

Preferred Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Community Service (case management) or related field (desirable).
  • Experience with case management software.
  • Project management experience.
  • Sound understanding of current Commonwealth and State policies related to immigration, settlement, asylum seekers, income support and other relevant social policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to changing policy and program needs.
  • Grant writing experience.
