In this vital senior leadership role, you’ll drive the delivery of Parks Victoria’s action plans and strategic directives across the Environment and Science division.
The Environment and Science Division provides scientific and technical advice and strategic guidance on environment and conservation matters across Parks Victoria and to the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and other government agencies on environmental conservation policy, funding needs and program delivery. The Division brings together strategy, planning, science, programming, monitoring and evaluation for Park Victoria with a focus on delivery of frameworks, standards and advice.
The Science and Management Effectiveness Branch is responsible for providing scientific and technical support, advice and direction to facilitate the application of evidence and knowledge to improve effectiveness within an adaptive management framework. The branch provides expert technical advice and assistance across multiple programs and initiatives and leads the development of scientific research and monitoring programs to gather critical evidence to inform decision-making.
As the Director of Conservation, you will be accountable for the delivery of high-quality nature conservation outcomes based on Parks Victoria’s strategic direction and action plans. A key function of the role is the implementation of scientific knowledge and evidence to preserve Victoria’s natural resources, with a strong focus on governmental and community expectations and risk. You will be required to define business strategies for the management of conservation programs, supervising coordination across a range of projects to ensure that communication is effective and that high-level key performance indicators are being monitored.
You will be an exceptional communicator with the ability to develop highly effective relationships across the organisation and with key external stakeholders, championing Parks Victoria’s values of inclusion and employee empowerment. The Director of Conservation will also be accountable for demonstrating leadership behaviours in alignment with Parks Victoria’s organisational commitments, in addition to providing key support to the Executive Director Environment and Science, enabling strategic and operational decision making.
