Palm Beach Neighbourhood Centre (PBNC) is a multi-purpose, community-based facility which provides services in response to the social, cultural and educational and welfare needs of the Southern Gold Coast to improve the quality of life of the community as a whole and it’s more vulnerable members.

Palm Beach Neighbourhood Centre would like to invite applications for Palm Beach Neighbourhood Coordinator position for 35 hours per week, SCHADS Level 7. PBNC is funded by the Queensland Government’s Department of Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety and the primary purpose of the Coordinator is to be a Leader of Staff and Volunteers and to oversee and supervise, the day-to-day management of the service.

This position is managed by and directly reporting back to the PBNC Management Committee and will be required to attend monthly Management Committee meetings. The incumbent is also expected to work closely with the Management Committee in terms of overall PBNC operations and daily management of Staff and Volunteers, PBNC Centre changes and potential growth of new services and programs to meet the needs of Southern Gold Coast communities.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

The work environment is dynamic and busy, requiring responsiveness to the needs of staff, clients, and volunteers. The role demands adaptability, with frequent adjustments to priorities and activities to meet evolving demands effectively.

The PBNC Coordinators key responsibilities include in the following general areas:

Administration

  • Report monthly to the Management Committee.
  • Report periodically to relevant funding bodies.
  • Participate in continuous service planning and evaluation in conjunction with volunteers, staff and the management committee as relevant.
  • Collect statistical data on all activities of programs and to maintain adequate records on performance indicators.
  • Participate in annual strategic planning workshops.
  • Participate with Management Committee and other staff in the development and implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Develop and monitor budget with the Financial Administrator and Management Committee.
  • Identify sources of funding and write submissions.
  • Maintain and review relevant policies and procedures.

Service Delivery

  • To offer crisis intervention and best practice in the management of complex needs clients who access the centre.
  • To facilitate therapeutic and community education activities to vulnerable persons.
  • To oversee delivery of services as per funding bodies output specifications.
  • To participate in activities that identify community need and advocate those needs to higher bodies.
  • To initiate and oversee the review and evaluation of the effectiveness of existing programs in the context of changing needs and availability of alternative services and implement changes to programs and services as appropriate.
  • To coordinate staff, volunteers, and available resources to best serve the community within designated funded activities.
  • Provide information about resources available within the community and how these resources can be accessed.

Management of Staff & Volunteers

  • Keep the PBNC Management Committee informed of progress with regards to recruiting, interviewing and selecting staff and in the delivery of existing and new programs/services.
  • Provide front line management/ supervision, evaluating performance and providing feedback to staff and volunteers.
  • Identifying and monitoring professional development to all PBNC personnel.
  • Allocate appropriate tasks to volunteers, co-ordinate volunteer activities, motivate and support such volunteers and evaluate their accomplishments.
  • Hold regular staff meetings.
  • Remain aware of industrial relations issues as they impact upon the service.

Community Facilitation

  • To operate through a community development framework
  • Liaise and link with appropriate networks, stakeholders and other agencies.
  • Oversee PBNC Team are engaging with local networks and inter-agencies participation.
  • To undertake community-based research to identify needs of the community and gaps in existing services and develop appropriate responses.
  • Advocate the needs of the southern Gold Coast.

Onsite Risk Management

  • To conduct risk assessments prior to new activities.
  • To work collaboratively with the management committee, the staff and volunteers on harm prevention and harm response measures.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly workplace

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE

  • Highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed reports and submissions.
  • Experience and skills to work with volunteers
  • National Police Clearance, Blue Card and Open driving licence

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE

  • Possession of a degree in social work, community welfare, counselling or human services, with preferably three years additional experience at a supervisory level.
  • Ability to provide dynamic leadership and manage the day-to-day operations of a busy centre effectively.
  • Experience in supporting and supervising Caseworkers and Counsellors, recognising, understanding, and validating their unique expertise and disciplines.
  • Proficiency in brief interventions, including, but not limited to, the provision of emergency relief, financial assistance, or social inclusion initiatives.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic team leadership skills, complemented by practical experience.
  • A strong “people’s person” mindset, thriving in collaborative, innovative work within a small, cohesive team.
  • Proven ability to build positive, long-term relationships with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Exceptional time-management and organisational skills, enabling effective management of multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated passion for improving the lives of marginalised people.
  • Possess the ability to prioritise employee well-being by leading by example, promoting work-life balance, fostering resilience and positive relationships, nurturing holistic well-being, encouraging open communication.
