PCYC NSW is seeking a Public Relations (PR) and Communications Specialist to shape our public image, manage media relations, and drive positive engagement. ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Brand, the PR and Communications Specialist will play a key role in shaping PCYC NSW’s external reputation and brand presence. You will develop media strategies, cultivate relationships with journalists, and respond to media opportunities to showcase PCYC NSW’s programs and impact. You will also play a critical role in crisis communications and reputational risk management.

You will:

  • Develop and implement external PR and communications strategies to enhance media presence.
  • Manage proactive and reactive media relations, ensuring positive brand coverage.
  • Identify and pitch compelling stories to traditional, digital, and broadcast media.
  • Develop and execute media plans and press releases that drive awareness and engagement.
  • Cultivate relationships with journalists, media professionals, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead crisis communications, ensuring an agile and effective response to reputational risks.
  • Create public-facing corporate documents, media kits, and impact reports.
  • Work closely with marketing, fundraising, and corporate partnerships teams to develop compelling content.
  • Monitor media coverage and report insights to executive leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with media standards, ethical journalism practices, and safeguarding policies.

ABOUT US

Established in 1937, PCYC NSW is a life changing charity collaborating in partnership with communities and NSW Police to empower youth, get kids active in life and reduce and prevent youth crime. We have sixty-six clubs and eighteen OOSH services across NSW, with a vision for significant growth.

Our aim is to engage with and positively influence over 70,000 youth members through mainstream sport, recreation, education, leadership, and cultural programs. We also work with at-risk youth to break the cycle of disadvantage through crime prevention, vocational education, youth capacity building and social responsibility programs to enhance the life direction and outcomes of over 7,500 youth per year.

ABOUT YOU

You are a skilled PR and communications professional with a keen eye for media opportunities, exceptional writing skills, and a strategic mindset. You thrive in dynamic environments, can navigate crisis communications, and have a strong passion for working with a purpose-driven organisation.

YOU WILL HAVE:

  • A strong alignment to the PCYC NSW values – Respect, Citizenship, Integrity, Commitment, Resilience.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in media relations, PR, or corporate communications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis and reputation management.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple channels.
  • Experience securing media coverage and managing media partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A current ‘C’ class driver’s license and willingness to travel within NSW when required.
