  • You’ll be coordinating work across Aboriginal Affairs (the agency) to ensure the smooth delivery of communications campaigns.
  • You’ll be working with other government departments on communications material that advances the interests of Aboriginal people in NSW.
  • You’ll be working in partnership with Aboriginal people and communities to help deliver change.
  • You’ll be telling stories that showcase the achievements of Aboriginal communities.
  • This is a temporary role up to October 2025 with the potential for ongoing.
  • Clerk Grade 9/10.

About the role.

The Senior Communications Officer manages and/or contributes to a range of communication strategies across all media platforms to support Aboriginal Affairs NSW and its delivery of key projects. They promote the agency’s work with Aboriginal communities and take a strategic approach to advancing its priorities.

The role provides specialist support to managers and staff across Aboriginal Affairs NSW as it consults widely on all aspects of the agency’s work program. The Senior Communications Officer also actively contributes to the development of the agency’s communication policies, procedures, systems and protocols.

This is a key role in the communications team. It works on major campaigns that support the wellbeing Aboriginal people and communities and helps share their stories.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely, and communicate confidently, sensitively and articulately.
  • You are experienced in developing and implementing strategic communications campaigns for a range of audiences.
  • You have highly developed, all-round media and communications skills across a variety of formats and channels.
  • You’re familiar with a range of communications platforms, including traditional media, digital and social media.
  • You can build strong relationships and ensure that stakeholder interests are managed positively and professionally.
  • You have good time management skills, and ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • You are a resilient and independent worker who is adaptable and agile.
  • You have strong cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal communities.
  • Multimedia, design or photography skills would be valuable

Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10. Package includes base salary $120,859 - $133,183) plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
