About the Team

Penrith City Council is committed to undertaking effective public health and environmental management programs in the City. Our Environmental Health Team plays a vital role in protecting the health, environment and safety of our City. To respond to the needs of our growing community, a opportunity exists for a motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health Team.

About the Role

The successful applicant will become an integral member of the Environmental Health section and will primarily be responsible for implementing improvements to, and the ongoing operation of, Council’s OSSM Program. The primary duties relate to OSSM assessment and inspections and may also be required to assist with the investigation and resolution of environmental health complaints, pollution investigations and enforcement, and environmental health assessment of development applications as time and resources permit.

Depending on resource needs, there may also be a requirement to complete a broader range of environmental health duties and the successful Officer may be asked to work within both the Environment Team and Health Team dependent on operational needs. 

Environmental Health Officers will be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends on occasion for inspection and investigation of public health and environmental matters.

Essential Criteria:

  • A tertiary qualification, preferably a degree, in Environmental Health or a related field;
  • Experience in the investigation and resolution of a range of environmental and public health matters in a local government setting;
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of the relevant public health and environmental legislation in NSW including, the Local Government Act, 1993, the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, 1997, Food Act 2003, Food Safety Standards and the Public Health Act 2010;
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution, negotiation and problem solving skills;
  • A current Class C Driver Licence

Desirable Criteria:

  • Preparation of correspondence including Notices, Orders, Penalty Notices, letters, memos and reports on issues relevant to environmental health.

Commencing Salary: $90,063.00 per annum with a range up to $104,251.00 according to skills and experience, plus 11.5% Superannuation.

A leaseback vehicle is available with this position but is not a condition of employment.
