Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our Board of Directors as the Treasurer of People For Nature. As a key member of our non-profit organisation’s leadership team, the Treasurer will oversee the financial management and strategy to ensure the sustainability and growth of our mission to inform, empower, and reconnect people with nature. This is a volunteer, board-level position that offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our programs, initiatives, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the financial operations of People For Nature, ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to best practices.
  • Work closely with the Executive Team and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies and budgets.
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports, including income and expenditure statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, and completion of any required audits.
  • Manage and monitor the organisation's bank accounts, investments, and cash flow to ensure financial stability.
  • Advise on fundraising strategies and provide financial oversight for grants, donations, and sponsorships.
  • Support the Executive Team in strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and guidance.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained and organised in compliance with legal and accounting standards.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or bookkeeping (non-profit sector experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance regulations for non-profit organisations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the Board, Executive Team, and volunteers.
  • Proficient in accounting software (experience with Xero or similar is a bonus).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • A passion for sustainability, conservation, and the mission of People For Nature.
