About the Role

As the Nursery Assistant, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Barb Martin Bush bank Native Plant Nursery. You will oversee plant production, pest and disease control, weed management, irrigation, and plant nutrition. You’ll manage a diverse range of plants for both internal and external customers and support the development of volunteers, work placements, and interns. Additionally, you will assist with monitoring revegetation programs in collaboration with the Conservation Department. This unique role offers the opportunity to pursue your passion for both conservation and native plant production.

About you

You will have a strong background in nursery production and/or horticulture, with a passion for native plants and environmental sustainability. You are eager to contribute to conservation efforts and have experience in overseeing plant care and working with teams. Your ability to mentor and support volunteers and interns will be key, and your knowledge of plant health and production processes will help drive the success of the nursery. Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience in identifying and propagating Victorian coastal indigenous flora and vegetation communities.
  • Strong background in plant nursery operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, contractors, and community stakeholders.
  • High-level communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and operational workflow management.
  • In-depth knowledge of indigenous plants.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Cert III horticulture) and/or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Police Check
