Pillar Two

This is a full time, hybrid role which can based in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra.

We are looking for an Advisor to join our team. As an Advisor, you will work with multi-national corporations and other organisations to support and develop their approach to respecting human rights in line with the UNGPs and other key international standards as well as emerging national frameworks where relevant. You will not be asked to provide any legal advice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project managing individual client projects to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner, on budget, and to a high quality.
  • Designing, supporting, and / or undertaking projects to advance companies’ implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This may include developing human rights policy and process documents, conducting salient human rights risk mapping and human rights risk analyses and impact assessments, and developing training and guidance materials. It may also include developing recommendations, roadmaps and action plans for continuous improvement in relation to companies’ human rights approaches.
  • Liaising with corporate clients and external stakeholders including representatives from investors, civil society organisations, academia and government.
  • Conducting research and analysis, including on industry best practice, regulatory developments, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Drafting project reports and other deliverables tailored to client needs and presenting those deliverables.
  • Drafting and advising on company human rights reporting, policies, training and related materials.
  • Writing client updates and thought leadership pieces.

We are looking for an Advisor with the following experience:

  • 1-5 years of professional experience working for or directly engaging with companies on human rights related issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) with an advanced degree preferred in law, political science, or international relations.
  • Understanding of core business and human rights standards including the UNGPs (and the international human rights instruments referenced in them) and relevant policies and legislation, in particular mandatory human rights due diligence and modern slavery reporting legislation and related developments.
  • Excellent project management, and strong organisational skills, including the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills along with the ability to synthesise, explain and present information in a clear, concise and practical manner.
    Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including a high degree of comfort liaising with and presenting deliverables to clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high quality deliverables for clients.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
