About the role

The Aboriginal Affairs Lead holds the responsibility of leading the development and delivery of initiatives and projects that align to WesCEF’s Aboriginal Affairs Strategy, WesCEF’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Strategy and Wesfarmers Reconciliation Action Plan. The role involves advising executive and senior leaders on Aboriginal affairs including community relationships, recruitment, retention and cultural awareness. A full time Aboriginal Affairs Advisor reports into this Lead role, and together they are responsible for implementing key targets across all initiatives, collaborating with team members across all levels of the business, and maintaining a high profile.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience in delivering Aboriginal engagement initiatives and services, alongside significant knowledge of Aboriginal cultures. You will personally demonstrate, through consistent behaviour and understanding, respect for, and compliance with culturally appropriate ways of working with Aboriginal people and their communities. You are an experienced leader with a background in project implementation, team management and reporting, and you are passionate about working with others to achieve goals and listening to the needs of internal and external stakeholders You will be the person who guides the business and its people to be connected to community, culture and country.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Significant experience (at least 8 years) in delivering a broad range of Aboriginal engagement and involvement initiatives or services.
  2. Extensive understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal cultures, labour market and programs.
  3. Outstanding interpersonal skills alongside the ability to build rapport, motivate and positively influence others.
  4. Proven experience in interpreting, analysing and communicating data.
  5. Strong project management skills
