About the Branch

The ESA Collaboration, Community Engagement and Intelligence Support portfolio encompasses specialist functions essential to the delivery of emergency services including:

  • Emergency Management
  • Risk, Spatial and Digital Services
  • Planning and Preparedness
  • Emergency Communications
  • Public Information and Engagement

The various business units within the Collaboration, Community Engagement and Intelligence Support Branch work in a collaborative manner providing specialist support to the ESA Executive, the operational services of the ESA and external agencies.

About the role

The Assistant Commissioner/EBM - Collaboration, Community Engagement and Intelligence Support Branch brings together a ‘whole of capability’ focus to ESA investment and sustainment across all operational services.

The Assistant Commissioner/EBM - Collaboration, Community Engagement and Intelligence Support sets the strategic direction and leads the development, planning and delivery preparedness functions and activities across the ESA. The role is accountable for specialist staff and resources and must ensure the provision of expert preparation, emergency warnings, advice and support for emergency management operations.

About you

You will be a capable, organised and astute individual, who will wear many hats within this organisation and require a keen attention to detail, a sound knowledge of policy and a personable demeanour. As an Executive and member of the ESA Executive Leadership Group, you will lead by example, consistently modelling the highest standards of values and ethics in all practices. You will regularly review and reallocate resources, and work on establishing effective workforce planning and accountability structures that maximises capability to deliver required business outcomes.

You will be an innovator who is committed to planning and making decisions that deliver innovative and sustainable outcomes; with the ability to extract key issues from complex ambiguous and rapidly changing contexts to expertly resolve issues and challenges.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrated executive experience leading corporate functions across a large and complex portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership to capability focused programs and projects.
  • Proven ability to motivate, develop, and lead a diverse team with a proven commitment to valuing diversity and fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Proven experience in effectively engaging across different levels of government, with the ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving community and an ability to deliver on improved service outcomes.
  • High level communication skills and a strong ability to influence effectively.
