Corrections Victoria operates Victoria’s adult prison system and post-sentence scheme, providing safe and secure containment for people in our care and services that support rehabilitation. Corrections Victoria runs 11 public prisons, two residential facilities for serious offenders post-sentence, one transition centre, and one community residential facility and oversees three privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety supporting the Minister for Corrections.
About the role
The new Deputy Commissioner role will report to the Commissioner of Corrections Victoria. This position is critical in leading cultural reform across the prison system to drive improvements in workforce capability and a humane and rehabilitative environment. This role will embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expertise and perspectives into strategic and operational leadership across all levels of Corrections Victoria and nurture processes to enable system leadership that includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expertise to enhance cultural safety for staff and people in custody in both public and private prisons.

The ideal candidate will be a transformative leader within Corrections Victoria's executive team, shaping the strategic vision and implementing cultural reforms across the prison system, particularly through the 'Safer Prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities' program. You will have strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety, workforce development, and collaboration experience with a proven ability to enhance justice outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities. You will lead high-profile initiatives to improve the custodial workforce's capabilities and support a culturally safe environment for staff and people in custody. You will have an established track record in achieving outcomes in a complex service system and in high-level stakeholder engagement.
