About the Role

The First Peoples Lead will offer leadership to drive reconciliation efforts, provide inspired guidance to our First Peoples program and team, and advise our organisation and Council.

This role will entail overseeing our relationships with all Traditional Owner groups that hold historical and cultural ties to our city, First Peoples Service Providers, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders residing in or visiting Port Phillip.

This is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

Duties

• Provide organisational leadership and advice.
• Oversee crucial stakeholder relationships.
• Assess emerging topics and opportunities, offering guidance across various areas including reconciliation, employment, health and well-being service planning, civic protocols, traditional ownership and land management.

Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of First Peoples' culture.
• Ability to communicate sensitively, and effectively
• Experience in policy development, report writing.
• Experience in sustaining engagement and partnerships between government, Traditional Owners, Aboriginal-controlled organisations, and local communities.
• Experience in program and policy development and apply this to work within corporate processes and timeframes
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and relevant experience.
