We are looking to add a couple of disability support workers with Auslan skills to the small, dedicated team who work with our son, a Deaf man in his mid-30s, in his own home in inner North Brisbane. The team aims to increase our son’s independence in all areas of his life, work with him to continue his language and academic development, as well as facilitate his social participation, particularly in Deaf community events.
Our young man attends various weekly therapies, undertakes routine activities of daily living/housekeeping, and completes both volunteer work and runs a small business throughout the week. On weekends he mainly enjoys social outings and recreational activities. His support workers facilitate all activities of daily living including housekeeping and personal cares. A private bedroom is available for overnight shifts and a reliable automatic vehicle is provided for use on shift.
We are looking for people who are patient, caring, committed and reliable to join our team. Candidates need to be flexible to support the requirements of the role as directed by the family. Previous disability support or allied health experience is preferred but not essential.
Regular rostered day and overnight shifts are available as set out below. We also have the expectation that you will contribute (as available) to cover shift swaps and holiday leave within the team.
We are self-managing our son’s support and provide a safe, comfortable, supportive working environment with a culture heavily focused on respect, communication and supporting our right to privacy.
