We are looking for a Campaigns & Communications Coordinator to join our federal office and assist in the development of our national campaign capacity. This is a permanent position with access to remote working.
The CPSU-SPSF is a federated union with six branches, representing workers in state public sectors, government owned business and Universities. With 120,000 members, we are the largest union dedicated to organising public service workers and improved public services.
The National Campaigns and Communications role will coordinate national campaigns and deliver high quality communications for strategic projects, industrial, political and issue-based campaigns.
This is a new position, in a small team, that requires creativity and energy and would suit an experienced person with a wide skill set or someone with a commitment to learn quickly.
Overview:
The CPSU-State Public Sector Federation Group (SPSF) Federal Office is a federated union with six branches, representing 120 000 members in state public sector roles, government owned business and Universities.
Position Purpose:
This role leads the union’s efforts nationally in organising public service workers and advocating for public services across Australia through effective campaigns and communications. The National Campaigns and Communications role will coordinate national campaigns across branches and deliver high quality communications for strategic projects, industrial, political and issue-based campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
Campaign development and coordination:
- Development and implementation of campaign strategies and action plans endorsed by Federal Executive.
- Coordination of national bargaining, targeted occupational campaigns and election campaign activities.
- Support for Federal Executive, Federal Committees, Reference groups and State Branches involved in the development and implementation of action plans.
- Conduct research to support campaign plans and advocacy efforts.
- Maintain up-to-date records on campaign activities that require disclosure.
- Review of campaign and communication activities for continuous improvement.
Communications and Capacity Building
- Development of persuasive communications, materials and digital content for campaigns and action plans
- Management and expansion of digital, online and campaign platforms
- Prepare media statements and coordinate media outreach
- Assist in the training, development, and mentoring of delegates, members, and staff in skills required for effective campaigning.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Proactively liaise with elected leaders, campaign and communications staff across State branches to keep all stakeholders informed of and committed to the development, implementation and delivery of agreed action plans.
- Regularly communicate with CPSU Branches on industry, political and workplace development matters which affect their workplace or operations.
- Build relationships and alliances with union, industry, community and political stakeholders.
- Represent CPSU SPSF at meetings, forums, committees and conferences under the direction of the Federal Secretary
Industrial Research, Representation and Advocacy
- Lead negotiations for national employer and multi-employer bargaining
- Coordination of state branches on matters of shared public policy; including research, preparing submissions and arranging appearances.
- Industry research and development of sector and industry plans
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Required
- Demonstrated success in coordinating campaigns, including industrial campaigns, issues-based campaigning, or election campaign activities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience writing and creating high quality, engaging and persuasive communications and materials
- Experience in digital campaigning and creating online content across multiple platforms
- Some knowledge of state and federal government, public policy and industrial relations systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team, independently, and to deadlines
- Commitment to union values, public services and social justice
Desirable
- Experience in union, community, or social justice activities
- Ability to develop and implement growth campaign strategies and lead generation
- Experience in the development of branding and messaging
- Competence in campaign and data management programs
- Experience in bargaining

Position Details:
- Full time position, flexible working arrangements available, including remote working
- Permanent position, subject to a six-month probationary period
- Position can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart or Perth other alternate locations will be considered.
SALARY AND CONDITIONS
Full time salary is $120 000pa, plus superannuation and generous conditions.
This role will be full time, permanent and can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth or Tasmania and includes access to flexible working arrangements. We are open to considering other work locations.
