The core responsibilities of this role will be engaging & empowering communities and helping coordinate the Member’s presence in the local community. You will also undertake constituent support working including ensuring timely responses to the correspondence the Member receives.

The position is 2 - 3 days per week (.4-.6 FTE), with working schedule by agreement.

  • Role Type: Fixed term contract until 11 April with a likely extension until June. Part time 2 - 3 days per week
  • Salary: Electorate Officer Grade 2, starting at $83,469 per annum pro rata (plus superannuation)
  • Location: Doncaster electorate office, with occasional working days offsite

Responsibilities of the Community Engagement Officer:

  • Build and maintain relationships and communication with local communities, community groups and local organisations across the North Eastern Metropolitan region and Victoria, including;
    • a) Identifying opportunities for organising and running community and stakeholder events, and;
    • b) Attending community events with or in the place of the Member;
  • Develop & deliver community engagement campaigns;
  • Support constituent correspondence;
  • Recruit, manage, train and support volunteers to get involved in Aiv’s office activities.
  • Other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  1. Demonstrated experience in event management, volunteer recruitment and retention, and community organising;
  2. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide cross section of individuals and organisations;
  3. Highly developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  4. The ability to work as part of a team and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment;
  5. Capacity to comprehend and clearly communicate complex issues, think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances; and
  6. A commitment to the Greens’ values and mission along with knowledge and interest in Victorian politics.

Optional, but desirable:

  1. Fluent spoken Mandarin and written Simplified Chinese
  2. Drivers license and car

Terms of appointment

The position is under the terms and conditions of an Electorate Officer 2-3 days per week, from Aiv’s office in Doncaster. This is a contract position until at least 11 April with a likely extension until June.

Electorate Officers are employees of the Victorian Parliament, directly accountable to the Member in whose electorate they are employed. Electorate Officers have a main role in supporting the Member, a position which requires a high degree of loyalty, versatility and the ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of the Member and those who contact the office.
