PWDA is seeking an experienced and strategic Media and Communication Manager for a fixed term parental leave replacement.

The Senior Manager of Media and Communications will provide strategic leadership to the PWDA Board and CEO. This is a fast-paced role that is responsible for overseeing all aspects of PWDA’s media engagement, including guiding the organisations responses and managing and nurturing relationships with journalists. The goal is to protect and enhance PWDA’s reputation with government and other key stakeholders, while increasing its capacity to effectively represent people with disabilities.
Media
A key element of this role is to position PWDA as the ‘go to’ organisation for media comment on disability issues and ensure messaging aligns the PWDA’s agreed positions. You will draft media releases and coordinate media responses and ensure organisational spokespeople are prepared and supported.
Sector Knowledge
It is critical that candidates have strong disability sector knowledge and can provide strategic communications advice on key disability issues.
Leadership and Stakeholder engagement
Stakeholder relationships with the Board and CEO are vital to the success of this role. The Senior Manager also provides leadership to 2 direct reports, Communications and Digital Marketing Specialist and Marketing and Engagement Specialist.
Membership Development and Fundraising
This role will also oversee the drafting of funding proposals to support the delivery of strategic initiatives.
To be considered for this role it is vital that you have a deep understanding of and commitment to the rights and interests of people with disability. This would be demonstrated through your extensive work experience in a similar role within the disability sector.
You will have a robust network and well-established media connections and seen as highly regarded.
Your advanced communication skills are critical to effectively engage and collaborate with key stakeholders including the Board, the Senior Executive team and key Political figures in Australia. Finally your written communication is exceptional with the ability to produce high quality media releases, digital resources, and social media content suitable for diverse audiences.
Please note that this role does require you to monitor the media phone afterhours and on weekends. Applicable on call allowances are payable.
