The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body for youth justice and child protection in Queensland. About the role
The Executive Director of Centre of Excellence (CoE) will seek to embed robust evaluation and research frameworks across Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) as well as new and emerging work within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family sector. This will include continue to embed action research across various programs and practices.
The Executive Director of the CoE is responsible for creating a culture where evaluation and research is a valued competency embedded across QATSICPP.
The Executive Director of COE is responsible for the contribution to empirical research, building critical evidence-based data and innovative recommendations to support program design, practice, decision making and service delivery.
Typical Duties and responsibilities
- Build strong, effective, and engaging relationships with key stakeholders including QATSICPP staff, member organisations, research institutes and the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety and the Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support as well as other relevant State and National Government Departments.
- Support the sustainability of QATSICPP by continuing to build its capacity, reputation, relevance, project reach, partnerships, and program quality.
- Drive the implementation of the CoE strategy and lead the design and implementation of a program management methodology, standards, and tools to drive and facilitate the successful delivery of proposals, projects, or programs through engagement with senior leadership of external organisations.
- Lead the development of an organisational culture that encourages and implements strong research and evaluation.
- Drive the writing of reports, publications, peer reviewed journal articles and presentations for key internal and external stakeholders.
- Enable the COE to develop and publish high-quality policy and practice papers, submissions, and practice resources.
- Develop, manage, and lead the QATSICPP CoE team to optimise performance, maintaining a positive culture and a consistent style and quality standard of work.
- Develop and refine quality assurance processes to ensure the cultural relevance, quality, usefulness and suitability of all practice development resources, programs, position statements and related products for use by diverse services and key stakeholders.
- Foster a culture which drives and encourages high performance, collaboration, agility and accountability in the delivery of QATSICPP’s program and project outcomes.
- Other tasks as directed by the CEO.
Desired skills, experience, and capabilities
- Substantial relevant expertise, experience, and qualifications in at least one of the following areas: early childhood development; child and family welfare; community services; business management; or public administration.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills as well as excellent written skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and people.
- Broad knowledge and a deep understanding of issues impacting upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families and commitment to the rights, needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, research and evaluate program design, practice, decision making and service delivery in child protection, youth justice, early intervention and prevention.
- Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, manage research and evaluation projects.
- Demonstrated experience, or the ability to acquire skills, to effectively manage program budgets and allocated resources to optimise productivity and maximise operational efficiency, to ensure compliance with contracted deliverables.
Mandatory requirements
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1991 (QLD).
- Bachelor qualification in relevant field including Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Science, Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Education or relevant field and/or in-depth high level working history in related fields.
- A current valid Queensland Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply
- Drivers Licence (preferable but not mandatory)
