The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body for youth justice and child protection in Queensland. Along with our 38 member organisations and partners, we are committed to creating positive futures for children, young people, families and communities.

The Centre of Excellence within QATSICPP aspires to facilitate the ownership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander intellectual property relating to children and families to support, enable and drive change in the Queensland child protection system to ensure best practice in delivering outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

About the role

The Project Officer position involves contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a facilitator's guide for the Healing Our Children and Young People framework, which addresses the impacts of domestic and family violence (DFV) in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Queensland.

Working alongside 8 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Wellbeing Services (FWS) in Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Mareeba, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba/Southwest region, Rockhampton, and the Torres Strait, the Project Officer will develop and implement the guide and ensure its effectiveness in supporting healing services for children affected by DFV.

The role includes providing implementation support, such as training and community of practice facilitation, and leading the evaluation of the guide's implementation.

Typical Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the facilitators guide for the Healing Our Children and Young People framework.
  • Collaborate with 8 Family Wellbeing Services to create associated resources and ensure effective community healing services.
  • Provide support to sites through training and communities of practice.
  • Lead the evaluation of the facilitators guide’s implementation.
  • Build strong, effective relationships with key stakeholders, including FWS, community groups, and government departments.
  • Contribute to the publication of research and reports.
  • Other tasks as directed by the Centre of Excellence Director and/or CEO.

Desired skills, experience, and capabilities:

  • Significant knowledge of domestic and family violence issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Understanding of the policy context for system reform and its impact on child protection and youth justice for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled sector.
  • Strong skills in project management, research, and community engagement.
  • Capacity to use NVIVO software or attain this.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Experience in project management and implementation in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and family services or related fields such as health, mental health, or community development.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis.
  • A degree or post-graduate studies in a relevant field is highly desirable.
  • A current valid Queensland Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
  • Driver’s License (preferable but not mandatory
