about the role

  • Provide high level professional secretarial services to the Commissioner including drafting documents and communications, diary management and optimisation, coordinating meetings, meeting minute taking and preparing agendas and itineraries.
  • Coordinate meetings of the Executive Committee and ensure internal papers for Executive Committee consideration are prepared on time and to a satisfactory quality standard
  • Coordinate and support the effectiveness of internal consultative forums and committees as requested by the Commissioner
  • Coordinate the Commissioner’s attendance at external meetings, conferences, ceremonies and other events ensuring that supporting documents, agenda papers and reports are available for the Commissioner and other QHRC attendees. Attend meetings with the Commissioner as required and ensure actions arising from those meetings are recorded and enacted in a timely manner.
  • Undertake various special projects and/or conduct discreet enquiries and research often of a sensitive and confidential nature as requested by the Commissioner.
  • Extract, prepare and analyse data from a range of systems and sources utilising contemporary business intelligence systems and practices in line with the requirements of the Commissioner and in support of organisational reporting requirements.
  • On behalf of the Commissioner, liaise with a range of people both internal and external to the Queensland Human Rights Commission in relation to a broad range of subject areas and action requirements, displaying high levels of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Research, analyse, make recommendations, and prepare responses and documents for the Commissioner, including Ministerials, briefing papers, submissions, talking points, background briefings, reports and general correspondence on critical and sensitive matters, often in extremely short timeframes.
  • Build and maintain strategic and productive relationships with the Attorney-General and their office staff, as well as the Minister’s Office as well as QHRC staff members.
  • Co-ordinate executive travel and accommodation arrangements
