  • Level: Level 7 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.$115,065 - $119,871 pro-rata, (depending on experience), plus leave loading and an option to salary sacrifice.
  • Reports to: Senior Leader – Clinical Services
  • Contract: Full time (76 hours per fortnight) with option for 4 days per week- Ongoing

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to provide supervision to internal QPASTT staff who deliver a range of services, including intake and assessment, counselling, youth work, group work, community capacity building and collective healing. The supervisor will lead and nurture staff development through applying supervision frameworks, maintaining professional practice standards and supporting the organisation’s strategic vision of service delivery.

We are particularly looking for a supervisor who can also effectively contribute supervision skills related to:

  • Community capacity building
  • Collectivist healing approach
  • Lived experience staff development/support

Character

You are passionate about recovery from torture and trauma for people from refugee backgrounds, and have a particular interest / focus on community, collective healing, and capacity building.

We are looking for a Supervisor who is passionate about supporting direct service staff to assist individuals, families and communities recover from trauma. You will have a depth of understanding of the complexities of the work in order to compassionately respond and foster a safe environment for staff to be supported.

We seek someone who has strong discernment capabilities including the ability to balance the needs of individual staff members with those of the agency as a whole.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide individual and group supervision to staff working with clients across the lifespan as well as working across different recovery approaches. This includes a case load of supervisees focused on community development, collective healing and community capacity building, as well as other interventions across the organisation (i.e., adult, child and family counselling; youth work; group work; community development and capacity building). There may also be opportunities to provide external trauma-informed supervision and training to key stakeholders. 
  2. Have a comprehensive understanding of supervision models to support staff working with people with refugee experiences and people seeking asylum seekers, be able to explain these clearly, and adapt them for use in supervision.
  3. Contribute to the development of supervision practices, frameworks and policies to support collectivist and community-based models and practices. In addition, a capacity to acquire a comprehensive understanding of current supervision frameworks, relevant policies and procedures of the organisation is required to support supervisees and their clients.
  4. Work in collaboration with line managers to ensure that supervision and line management is differentiated, complementary and consistent.
  5. Provide quality practice guidance, including responding to critical incidents and crisis management. Provide debriefing to members of QPASTT staff to support quality service provision and reduce the risks of vicarious trauma and burnout.
  6. Support training and review processes for direct services work to enhance supervisee’s depth of practice and quality service delivery and be committed to supporting areas of improvement where required.
  7. Support accurate collection of professional and service level data in accordance with organisational directives.
  8. Provide guidance and input to staff in relation to written communication, including psychosocial reports, and client/community letters.
  9. Actively contribute to the Supervision Team to foster cohesion, collaboration, support and growth.
  10. Contribute to the collaborative management and leadership structure of QPASTT by applying trauma-informed and adaptive leadership practices.
  11. Other duties may be required as directed by the Senior Leader – Clinical Services

Requirements

  1. Degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant field, including but not limited to community development, psychology, social work, counselling, and other health, human services and justice qualifications. Post-graduate training is favourable. 
  2. Extensive relevant experience of at least five years, including experience in the provision of recovery focused interventions to people and/or communities who have experienced complex trauma. Provision of community, collectivist, and client capacity building work will be particularly valued.
  3. Technical understanding of trauma recovery for people from a refugee and asylum seeking background and the ability to articulate this clearly. Ability to apply QPASTT’s healing, belonging, thriving and justice framework and implement within the refugee and asylum seeking context.
  4. Experience in providing structured supervision and support to staff of varying professional backgrounds and experiences using models and frameworks of supervision.
  5. High level communication skills and interpersonal skills, including written and oral skills, consultation, negotiation, advocacy, presentation and liaison.
  6. Excellent conceptualisation skills and ability to articulate refugee trauma recovery frameworks.
  7. Leadership qualities including the ability to contribute towards a healthy functioning team and leadership group.
  8. Knowledge of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and moral injury and an ability to support supervisees that work with clients in challenging and often vulnerable circumstances.
  9. Desirable (but not essential) - you have a lived refugee or refugee-like experience.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Current Positive Notice Blue Card and provision of an annual federal police check;
  2. Current Queensland C Class driver’s license;
  3. Occasional out of hours work;
  4. Occasional travel to regional office locations in Queensland;
  5. Eligibility to work in Australia.
