Industrial Officer

Queensland Professional Firefighters' Union

The Queensland Professional Firefighters Union (the QPFU) represents professional and auxiliary firefighters and fire communications officers and is one of Queensland’s strongest unions. We have a long history of successfully representing the industrial and professional interests of our members through enduring advocacy and powerful action.

To assist with this, the QPFU is seeking an Industrial Officer to take the lead in providing initial response to, and assistance with, all incoming members’ inquiries and issues. It is expected that should you commence in the role, you will use these member issues to develop your skills to eventually contribute to all aspects of QPFU’s work.

With direct assistance and supervision from experienced Industrial Officers, the QPFU Executive and other officials, you will commence in the role managing the industrial matters of QPFU members with support from your colleagues until you are able to take matters from initial contact through to their conclusion.

It is expected that in this role you will quickly gain an in-depth understanding of our membership and their professional needs, as well as the industrial, legislative and policy environment in which they work.

Over time, you will become fully independent in your role. Your skills will be developed to allow you to write policy, represent members at cross-union and political forums, negotiate on their behalf and advocate for them before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. We are seeking a long-term team member to join our small industrial team, develop skills and work alongside our members in their important work, to keep the QPFU the strong and representative union it has come to be known as.

  • Ability to identify, manage and continually evaluate competing deadlines and priorities.
  • High level of research skill.
