LawRight’s Community and Health Justice Partnerships operate at over 12 locations, where staff and visiting pro bono lawyers collaborate with health and community workers to resolve the complex, intersecting problems of clients. The role is offered on a 4 day (29 hours) or 5 day (36.25 hours) per week basis.

This position is located in Cairns. The Cairns Community & Health Justice Partnership (CHJP) is co-located within the Anglicare Homelessness Services Hub and provides outreach services to Douglas House.

Duties include:

  • Lead the delivery of the Community and Health Justice Partnerships casework in Cairns;
  • Supervise and manage the legal services delivered through your allocated partnerships and projects in Cairns;
  • Work with the Joint Directors to manage the operations of the Cairns CHJP office;
  • Work with the Managing Lawyer to identify and implement law reform projects, resource development and training program;
  • Engage with relevant community agency and strategic partners;
  • Conduct research, policy, and systemic advocacy work; and
  • Contribute to the CHJP training program to volunteer lawyers.

Experience/skills:

  • Current QLS Unrestricted Practicing certificate (or interstate equivalent) with at least 5 years PAE;
  • Experience managing a team of lawyers or volunteers;
  • Experience providing legal services to marginalised clients, with the delivery of services in an outreach location an advantage;
  • Knowledge of the legal issues faced by people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage, with an understanding of the issues impacting homelessness an advantage;
  • Flexibility and initiative suitable for working in a team environment with limited resources;
  • Knowledge and understanding of outreach legal services in collaborative and pro bono legal settings; and
  • Strong commitment to access to justice and compassion for disadvantaged members of society.
