About us

We offer pro bono work for prisoners, Aboriginal Australians, victims of crime, and general social justice issues. We are the Victorian providers for Brigid’s Justice which is a philanthropic organisation funding a panel of private lawyers to represent women who have experienced severe DV. We are involved in work alongside the Innocence Project (assessing mistrials for prisoners). We offer internships and traineeships to refugees, indigenous people and those from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds and are the only law firm accredited by ACON in NSW as an employer of trans people.

about the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity available and are looking for a highly motivated lawyer with experience in criminal and/or family law to become a long-term member of our respected team.

You will work alongside the Principal and our collegiate law firms who will provide guidance, access to formal training and support to allow you to thrive and grow in your professional skills and capabilities.

It can be a high-pressure environment but a necessary sense of humour and team approach sees us through. We are primarily located in sunny Doncaster East with offices in outback Australia.

There will be opportunity to prepare cases from the outset, drafting proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and appearing in procedural matters. In relation to criminal matters, you can further develop your advocacy skills at the Magistrates/Local Court level along with assistance in indictable matters. You will work closely with our clients, barristers and the Principal, participating in client conferences, providing advice, drafting statements, undertaking negotiations and working with clients until the finalisation of their matter.

We are passionate about providing real training and mentoring opportunities to a candidate who wants to contribute to the firm on a long term basis and would prefer a candidate wishing to make this commitment.

  • Minimum 1 year experience post-admission experience in criminal and/or family law
  • A strong work ethic, administrative skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a small but growing team
