headspace provides young people with access to Allied Health Professionals and community supports that they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence to live healthy and happy lives. The centre also engages in community awareness and seeks to develop and implement innovative programs to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people in the region. Relationships Australia Canberra & Region is the lead agency for headspace Batemans Bay and is supported by a Consortium.

Your new role

  • 1 x Full-time, fixed term up to June 2027 in accordance with Funding Agreement. Location is Wagga Wagga, NSW
  • Annual Salary between $85,120.35 to $ 91,586.55, plus Superannuation, NFP Salary Packaging, Paid Christmas closure and other generous leave provisions under our Enterprise Agreement

The Community Awareness Officer raises awareness about youth mental health and provides accessible information about mental health issues and service systems. This is achieved by ensuring communication and awareness strategies that cater for young people, carers, service providers and the general community. The outcome being that young people and the general community are more aware of mental health and related issues and that young people seek help early.

Duties:

In consultation with the Manager, headspace Wagga Wagga, the Community Awareness Officer:

  • is responsible as key facilitator, promoting and supporting the Youth Reference Group and supporting Family and Friends Reference Group.
  • assists in the development and implementation of a range of regional social youth engagement activities designed to raise awareness of youth mental health issues, including development of specific activities for young people requiring stakeholder engagement and evaluation.
  • builds and maintains positive partnerships with key stakeholders and works collaboratively to develop and implement agreed activities.
  • assists in the promotion and increases awareness of headspace Wagga Wagga, through event, product, and partnership support.
  • Adopt a family inclusive approach, valuing the significance of family in a young person’s life and actively supporting a young person’s family and facilitating their involvement in care and support of the young person.

What you’ll need to succeed

  1. An appropriate tertiary qualification in youth mental health – health literacy.
  2. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver small group activities and deliver presentations to various groups.
  3. Demonstrated experience with stakeholder engagement and communication, particularly with young people.
  4. Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise effectively.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency with all social media platforms, technology, including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications and the capacity to quickly learn new technologies, including electronic client management system packages.
