We are:

Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS), a nonprofit providing essential legal support and advocacy for people who have fled persecution to find safety in Australia. We help refugees, people seeking asylum, stateless individuals and those who are displaced. Our vision is of justice and dignity for and with refugees and since 1987, we've helped tens of thousands of people secure protection in Australia.

RACS provides free, dedicated legal services to people seeking asylum and refugees. Through individual advice sessions, community education and public advocacy, RACS strives to ensure that individuals and families, at risk of persecution or other forms of significant harm, gain access to equal and fair representation before the law, and are granted protection by Australia, and opportunities to seek family unity, in accordance with Australia’s international obligations.

The Role:

The primary role of the Finance Assistant is to provide accountancy and payroll support to the Finance team at RACS. The position reports to the Finance Officer and will carry out their duties in accordance with RACS policy and guidelines.

The Finance Assistant will assist the Finance Officer with bookkeeping, payroll and other financial functions. The Finance Officer may also provide some administrative support to the RACS Fundraising team with financial reporting and donor support.

'This is a part-time (14-21 hours per week), 12-month contract position. We are offering a hybrid arrangement worked remotely 50% of the time and 50% from the RACS office in Randwick. Working hours will be agreed with the successful candidate.

You will:

  • Process accounts payable and receivable using MYOB accounting software
  • Assist with fortnightly Payroll processing
  • Reconcile monthly accounts
  • Ensure accuracy of CRM (Salesforce) information for the Fundraising team
  • Provide administrative and other support to the Finance Officer and Director of Finance & Operations
  • Assist with Operations as necessary

Essential

  • Degree in Accounting and/or three years’ experience in relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll, accounts receivable and payable and month end reconciliations
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint
  • Demonstrated experience using Excel at an advanced level
  • Previous experience using a CRM
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage time and priorities effectively and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • A commitment to refugee and human rights issues

Desirable

  • Experience using Salesforce
  • NFP salary packaging experience
  • Experience working in an environment with limited resources
  • Experience working in a fundraising environment
  • Communications skills in a language other than English will be considered highly favourably

Salary

The remuneration for the position is at the SCHADS Award rate Level 3.1 – 3.3 depending on the experience of the successful candidate, plus superannuation contribution and loadings. Salary packaging is available to increase your take-home pay.
