ABOUT RAILS

The Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS) is a community legal centre based in South Brisbane. For over 40 years, RAILS has provided free legal assistance and education in immigration and refugee law to people in Queensland.

RAILS assists some of the most vulnerable people in our community, predominantly refugees, asylum seekers and people who have experienced family violence. RAILS strives to empower them and help them find and remain in safety.

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Hours: Contract until 30 June 2025 with the possibility of extension. 3 - 4 days/week
  • Salary: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award level 5 plus additional 11.5% superannuation
  • Generous leave entitlements (paid parental leave, cultural and special leave provisions; portable long service leave) including additional paid leave over end of year shut down; and

OVERVIEW

The Human Resources & Volunteers Coordinator is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative support for all HR functions and coordinating RAILS’ volunteer programs. This role is crucial to promoting a positive organisational culture and ensure efficient HR and volunteer operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Program Coordination:

  • Recruit, onboard and manage day legal and law student volunteers
  • Oversee volunteer records, rostering and provide ongoing support and guidance
  • Act as the primary contact for non-legal volunteer queries
  • Organise volunteer functions and monitor satisfaction through surveys and feedback
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and awards

Human Resources Administration:

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes
  • Administer HR systems, ensuring accuracy of employee records
  • Assist in HR policy development and ensure compliance
  • Support internal training programs and HR metric reporting

Employee Engagement and Culture:

  • Assist in staff engagement and well-being initiatives
  • Provide administrative support for performance reviews and professional development
  • Contribute to fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive workplace culture

ABOUT YOU

Essential:

  • 2 years previous experience in a human resources support role or a coordinating volunteers position within a not for profit organisation.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills, attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse groups
  • A high level of confidentiality and ethical standards

Desirable:

  • Experience in volunteering coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and requirements.
