About RANZCO

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) is the medical college responsible for the training and professional development of ophthalmologists in Australia and New Zealand. RANZCO is the only specialist medical college accredited to train ophthalmologists. We’re a membership organisation of 42 staff, located adjacent to Central station.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

The RAP commits RANZCO to activities that seek to achieve equity in access and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; continue to build collaborative partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the health sector; build on our existing commitment to increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ophthalmologists in Australia; and will improve and enhance our organisation’s cultural safety practices.

The Role

The successful applicant will collaborate with other members of the Delivery and Development Committee to oversee the delivery of RANZCO's Vocational Training Program (VTP) by training networks and provide support and remediation for trainees experiencing training difficulties. Key responsibilities and accountabilities are summarised below:

Implementation and Compliance:

  • Ensuring training networks adhere to the VTP’s curriculum, RANZCO’s Standards for Ophthalmology Training Posts, and relevant policies and procedures.

Support and Guidance:

  • Guiding and supporting Chairs, DOTs, supervisors, and clinical tutors in applying RANZCO’s policies and procedures, including the Trainee Performance Support Policy and Pathway.
  • Overseeing the planning and delivery of the RANZCO Bi-national lecture program and online learning for the VTP.
  • Monitoring and supporting remediation efforts for trainees in difficulty.

Collaboration and Development:

  • Working with committees and staff to develop and implement learning, teaching, and assessment materials.
  • Developing strategies to support the wellbeing of trainees and trainers.
  • Engaging in monitoring and evaluation activities to improve the VTP’s design and delivery.

Time commitment

Attendance at two meetings per year of approximately two-hours duration, one is face-to-face in Sydney, and one is an evening videoconference. The College will cover the costs of travel and accommodation to the face-to-face meeting.

The role will require responding to issues between meetings, via email or the committee collaboration hub, typically once or twice per month.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Postgraduate degree in education and/or another relevant field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience developing and delivering learning, teaching and assessment activities and providing support and remediation for students experiencing academic difficulties in the higher education sector.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering outcomes and influencing change through effective communication, negotiation, and influencing.
  • Developing effective working relationships with fellow members of committees or working groups and stakeholders.
