The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) are seeking a Community Representative for its Australian O&G Workforce Working Group. The Community Representative will serve on the working group until November 2021.

(RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.

RANZCOG is committed to the establishment and maintenance of the highest possible standards of practice in women’s health and provides programs in training, accreditation and continuing professional development (CPD) that are responsive to the evolving health care needs of women.

RANZCOG supports research into women's health and act as an advocate for women's healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community and professional organisations, both locally and internationally.

THE AUSTRALIAN O&G WORKFORCE WORKING GROUP RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Australian O&G Workforce Working Group supports ongoing workforce planning initiatives by the College.

The main responsibilities of the O&G Workforce Working Group include the following:

  • Provide RANZCOG Board with advice about the current state and trends of the Australian O&G workforce around the following matters:
  • Scope of practice
  • Ageing of workforce
  • Distribution of workforce
  • Impact of Subspecialists and SIMGs on supply and demand;
  • Undertake workforce modelling and training pipelines, which enables the College to provide meaningful recommendations to the Medical Workforce Reform Advisory Committee (MWRAC) on a regular basis;
  • Provide the RANZCOG Board and Regional Fellows Committee with ongoing recommendations in addressing the maldistribution of workforce in regional, rural and remote areas, and support RANZCOG in the development of targeted programs and initiatives to address maldistribution; and
  • Collaborate with the Gender Equity and Diversity Working Group to advise RANZCOG on relevant matters relating to the O&G workforce.

The Working Group comprises one RANZCOG Board Member who shall chair the Working Group, deputy chair, one Rural/Regional FRANZCOG representative, one FRANZCOG representative from each state, one midwife representative from the Australian College of Midwives, two diplomate representatives (one each from RACGP and ACRRM), one FRANZCOG trainee representative, one Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representative, and one community representative. Ex-officio members include the RANZCOG President and the RANZCOG CEO.

The Working Group will meet four times a year, at least one of which is face-to-face, including one joint meeting per year with the New Zealand O&G Workforce Working Group.

All Committee members (including Ex-officio) have full voting rights.

The O&G Workforce Working Group was formally instituted following the February 2020 Board meeting.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVE:

  • Provide a consumer perspective on matters considered by the Australian O&G Workforce Working Group.
  • Ensure that the O & G Workforce Working Group is aware of, and recognises the implications of, consumer perspectives in matters considered by the Working Group.
  • Act as a source of information on issues affecting consumers that may be considered by the O & G Workforce Working Group.
  • Contribute agenda items for discussion by the O&G Workforce Working Group that may have implications for consumers of women’s healthcare services that fall under the auspices of the College.
  • To contribute to robust, transparent decision-making that aligns with the College’s vision, mission and values.

  • High level communication skills.
  • Good judgement and the capacity to contribute in a collaborative manner.
  • Ability to analyse issues and judge their effects on the relevant consumers.
  • Availability to participate in meetings at various locations around the country, or by teleconference or videoconference as required.
