  • Employment Type: Fixed-term contract (9 months, part-time, 15 hours per week over three or four days

Position Summary

The Communications Officer will play a key role in enhancing Resilient Lismore’s public engagement through strategic communications. This role involves managing social media, newsletters, email communications, website updates, and content creation to support the organisation’s mission of community resilience and recovery. The ideal candidate will have experience with a range of digital communication tools and be willing to learn new platforms quickly.

Key Responsibilities

Content Development & Social Media Management

  • Develop engaging social media content using original photography and graphic design in Canva.
  • Moderate and manage discussions in Resilient Lismore’s Facebook group.
  • Plan, schedule, and report on social media engagement and effectiveness.
  • Capture and edit basic video content for digital platforms.

Newsletter & Email Communication

  • Draft compelling newsletter copy, leveraging AI tools for development, review, and revision.
  • Design and distribute newsletters using MailChimp.
  • Manage and maintain email contact lists to ensure accurate segmentation and targeted communications.

Website Management

  • Edit and update content on the Resilient Lismore WordPress website.
  • Ensure website information is accurate, relevant, and engaging.
  • Work with the team to implement necessary changes and improvements to website functionality.

Strategic Planning & Reporting

  • Assist in developing and implementing communication strategies that align with Resilient Lismore’s goals.
  • Track and analyse engagement metrics to improve content effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Experience in social media content creation, including photography and Canva design.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft engaging and clear content.
  • Familiarity with MailChimp or similar email distribution platforms.
  • Ability to manage and moderate Facebook groups effectively.
  • Basic video capture and editing skills.
  • Experience with WordPress website editing and content management.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and schedule content effectively.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new digital platforms quickly.

Desirable

  • Experience with AI-assisted content development and revision.
  • Background in community engagement or not-for-profit sector communications.
  • Understanding of the Lismore community and its unique challenges.
  • Experience with data analytics tools to assess communication impact.
