Proudly serving Australians since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides emergency aeromedical and allied health services for people in rural and remote Australia. About the Program

The Flying Doctor Dental Clinic works in collaboration with Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) and Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB) to provide oral health services to communities in rural Victoria.

The Dental team consist of dentists, oral health therapists and dental assistants who travel to rural and remote communities to provide examinations, oral health promotion and treatment services to eligible community members.

About the Role

This role is so much more than a regular Dentist role! The role of the Dentist is in the provision of a range of clinical dental services consistent with the scope of practice of Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) and the Flying Doctor Dental Clinic (FDDC) including the management of patient care, patient safety, infection control, record keeping and health promotional activities.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Undertake accurate diagnosis and treatment planning within scope of practice for the program
  • Provide appropriate referral of patients for specialist services or private services for non-eligible patients
  • Identify high risk patients and manage effectively
  • Maintain effective practices for the sterilisation and disinfection of instruments and equipment to prevent cross infection
  • Maintain and process dental records
  • Provide health education and promote oral hygiene

To be successful, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Dental Science or a related discipline
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with no current conditions as a Dental Practitioner
  • Minimum of three (3) years' clinical experience as a Dentist within Australia
  • To have the availability to work a one week on and one week off roster
  • To able to drive in both city and country traffic conditions
  • A commitment to excellence in the delivery of patient-focused health care
  • Ability to handle challenging operational situations in a calm and rational manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with various stakeholders
  • Clinical competency in independent patient care
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical patient record systems (RFDS uses Titanium) and sound experience in Microsoft Office applications
  • To hold Professional Indemnity insurance cover
  • Current CPR (or willing to obtain one)
  • Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a current Working with Children's Check, National Police Check, and the right to work in Australia.

Mandatory vaccination policy:

  • Annual Influenza
