In-line with its mission, Ronald McDonald House Charities Victoria & Tasmania (RMHC VIC & TAS) has dedicated more than 35 years to keeping families closer to their child with a serious illness who require treatment and support across Victoria and Tasmania.

What we're looking for:

Live In Role - Volunteer House Caretaker for both Parkville and Monash sites

As the Volunteer House Caretaker, you will be at the operational frontline, supporting and engaging Families to ensure that they have a positive experience during their stay. You will be responsible for high levels of customer service with the RMHC internal and external stakeholders and will need to represent the RMHC brand positively at all times.

Who are you?

Aside from fun, energetic, passionate humans - we are looking for people who are inspired by our mission and who actively want to contribute to the values held by Ronald McDonald House Charities. Applicants must be 18 years + and preferential screening will be given to couples/partners applying for the role.

Duties that the Live-In Volunteer House Caretake entails:

• Meeting and greeting families (new and current).
• Completing all required paperwork to check a new or return family into the House.
• Providing an empathetic friendly environment at all times, for RMHC children and their family.
• Cleaning common areas as required, including lights off at approximately 10pm, attendance to kitchen duties (e.g. dishwasher), discarding house food items on bench, mopping or sweeping of floors etc., wiping down chairs and tables
• Ensuring emergency response to fire alarm
• Refilling any items from storeroom / laundry that are required for example, tea, coffee.
• Replacing linen when required for families.
• Assisting with washing and drying when required.
• Assisting families with reasonable requests when on shifts (where you are unqualified, or uncomfortable to assist with, you will direct their enquiry to the Operations & Engagement Manger).
• Engaging with dinner groups- community and or corporate

What is the selection and recruitment process?

Volunteers must complete an online application form and be available for a telephone interview. If successful at the telephone interview stage, further in-person interviews are to follow.

What do we need from you?

• Ability to interact with the families, staff and other volunteers in a helpful and supportive manner.
• Able to perform light housekeeping tasks.
• Possess qualities of friendliness, dependability, flexibility, tact and good listening skills.
• Ability to work with limited supervision.
• Understand and practice confidentiality.
• Neat and clean appearance.
• Must be at least 18 years of age & pass RMHC VIC & TAS compliance checks including: Working with Children Check (WWCC – VIC), CrimCheck and COVID-19 Vaccination (due to hospital partner regulations)

• Signing and agreeing to our Code of Conduct
• Completion of training & development

Is a uniform supplied?

Volunteers are supplied with a volunteer polo and an ID badge on a lanyard which must be worn when volunteering. We may also provide hats and sunscreen depending on the season.
