ABOUT US

Reconciliation Victoria is the statewide body promoting reconciliation across Victoria. We bravely lead reconciliation by promoting deeper understanding, truth, respect and justice for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Our work is guided by local Aboriginal voices and focuses primarily on an audience of 97% of non-Indigenous Victorians. We work closely with and facilitate connections with local reconciliation groups and other community groups, the education sector and state and local government partners. We promote reconciliation across Victoria and organise annual events and statewide reconciliation forums.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Communications Officer focuses on professionally promoting Reconciliation Victoria’s key messages and work across various communication platforms. This includes developing content via electronic newsletters, websites, social media channels and print collateral. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues to ensure that Reconciliation Victoria’s communication is clear, engaging, timely and reflects the strategic priorities.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Contributing to the development of communication strategies and plans
  • Developing advice, messaging, media releases, statements, correspondence and other communications
  • Maintaining and updating websites and social media accounts
  • Ensuring consistent messaging, branding and style across platforms and publications
  • Coordinating event communications and promotions
  • Planning and delivering monthly e-newsletters and EDM’s and ensuring distribution lists always remain current
  • Collating data for reports as required
  • Developing and maintain positive and collaborative relations with stakeholders
  • Participating in one-on-one meetings, team meetings and planning meetings
  • Supervising and supporting volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Relevant qualifications in Communications, Digital Marketing or equivalent
  • Prior experience working in the NFP sector would be desirable as would experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • A strong understanding and being passionate about the historical and contemporary matters concerning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of and in Victoria
  • Experienced in communication planning, development and distribution as well as website maintenance and social media account management
  • Previously organised and executed events
  • High level written and verbal communication skills and able to apply appropriate style and formats
  • Advanced computer and online website management skills – MS Office, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube
  • Sound Digital design skills – Canva or InDesign
  • Stakeholder and community engagement skills
  • Ability to prioritise your workload whilst managing competing priorities
  • Good problem solving and time management skills
  • Able to work collaboratively, autonomously and positively in a fast-paced small team
  • Well-organised with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
