ABOUT US

Reconciliation Victoria is the statewide body promoting reconciliation across Victoria. We bravely lead reconciliation by promoting deeper understanding, truth, respect and justice for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Our work is guided by local Aboriginal voices and focuses primarily on an audience of 97% of non-Indigenous Victorians. We work closely with and facilitate connections with local reconciliation groups and other community groups, the education sector and state and local government partners. We promote reconciliation across Victoria and organise annual events and statewide reconciliation forums.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Education Officer supports the development and delivery of Reconciliation Victoria’s education program in Victorian schools and early years centres, including the Narragunnawali program. In this role, you will develop and implement an annual workplan and support any other Reconciliation Victoria projects with an education component.

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Promoting the Narragunnawali Reconciliation Education program to allow educators to foster pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions

  • Establishing and maintain strong relationships with peak Victoria education bodies
  • Developing reports and support the implementation of a range of projects including National Reconciliation week and Treaty education
  • Ensuring a coordinated approach and sector wide commitment to reconciliation by promoting First Peoples voices in education across Victoria
  • Delivering regular metro and regional presentations about reconciliation in education through face-to-face and online workshops
  • Supporting organisational efforts to obtain ongoing funding

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A tertiary qualification in Education would be advantageous
  • A strong understanding of the schools and early years sector in Victoria
  • Knowledge and experience in reconciliation or First Nations related projects or curriculum is highly favoured, as is prior experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities
  • Sound understanding of the historical and contemporary matters concerning First Peoples in Victoria
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Great interpersonal skills and good working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects at the one time
  • Highly organised with good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced small team to ensure deadlines are met whilst juggling a number of competing priorities
  • Solid skills in MS Office, Teams and Sharepoint
  • Professional public speaking skills and the ability to organise and facilitate online and in-person webinars, meetings and information sessions
