South Australian Native Title Services Ltd (SANTS) delivers services to South Australia’s traditional owners that promote and protect their native title rights and interests in land and waters.
We are currently seeking a passionate and organised Cultural Heritage Coordinator to join our Research Team at SANTS. This role reports directly to the Research Manager and plays a key part in supporting the preservation, management, and promotion of cultural heritage within our organisation.
As Cultural Heritage Coordinator, you will work collaboratively with our internal teams, community stakeholders, and external partners to help drive initiatives that recognise, protect, and celebrate cultural heritage. You’ll be part of a supportive Research Team, contributing to meaningful projects that reflect the values and identity of our community.
This is a locally based position in Adelaide, offering the opportunity to work closely with teams on the ground and be directly involved in community-focused outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Liaison with native title group representatives including in regard to engagement, employment and rostering of cultural heritage officers.
- Attend as necessary and as requested, negotiations between client groups and proponents, when heritage provisions are discussed.
- Provide internal/external support to ensure compliance with contracts and timesheet/payroll processes.
- Prepare and issue cost estimates for all heritage services.
- Ensure heritage reports are received, reviewed, and delivered in accordance with agreement obligations.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and strategies for the staff and consultants employed by the Native Title Services section.
- Work collaboratively with native title group representatives and stakeholders to ensure respectful and appropriate cultural heritage management.
- Manage the work and safety requirements for participants involved in surveys and monitoring activities.
- Coordinate and manage contract consultants and cultural heritage officers.
- Ensure compliance with heritage laws, policies, and best practices.
- Ensure the proper and ethical storage of cultural heritage data within the SANTS records management system (including use of CONTENT MANAGER).
To be successful in this role you will have:
Requirements:
- Degree qualification or experience in cultural heritage management and or project management.
- Experience working with First Nations organisations (desirable)
- Organisational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to work autonomously, under pressure, and within stringent timeframes
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial management
- Demonstrated consultation and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated project management and work planning skills
- Knowledge of GIS software (desirable)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Understanding of relevant SA and Commonwealth Aboriginal heritage legislation and regulatory requirements (desirable)
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal heritage matters
- Working knowledge of and commitment to the principles and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and Workplace Health and Safety.
- Minimum 3 years experience (desirable)
- Driver’s License
