Role overview

Based in the Melbourne office and reporting to the General Manager of Communications and Fundraising, SANE’s Graphic Designer is responsible for building a strong and consistent visual brand presence for the SANE brand.

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and drawing on highly refined creative skills, this role leads the design and development of traditional and digital assets that drive reach, awareness and engagement across SANE services, community initiatives, fundraising efforts, research and advocacy programs, and more.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to produce a wide range of print and digital materials.
  • Manage and govern SANE brand assets including brand guidelines, website styling guidelines, logos, and image and video libraries.
  • Curate and maintain an organised library of branded templates for use across the organisation, ensuring templates are up-to-date, accessible, and aligned with the evolving needs of the organisation.
  • Provide brand guidance and design support to the Social Media Coordinator and other team members.
  • Design and produce compelling visual content, including graphics, print materials, advertisements, digital presentations, videos, merchandise, website/s, social media marketing and email marketing and event management platforms.
  • Develop tailored visual content for diverse audiences, including priority populations and people requiring access to Easy Read content.
  • Provide event coordination support to public affairs and partnerships, including setting up and monitoring event management systems, and producing impactful event merchandising.
  • Manage stock levels for brand merchandise and merchandise linked to the sane.org webstore.
  • Send printed promotional materials to partners and supporting organisations.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Experience: At least 3 years of proven graphic design experience, including experience working in both digital and print formats.
  • Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Graphic Design or a related field.
  • Design skills: Advanced Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro or similar) and strong knowledge of design principles.
  • Experience with CMS platforms (Joomla, WordPress, eCommerce).
  • Email marketing platforms: preferably Campaign Monitor or similar.
  • Communication and relationship skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supplier management: Experience managing suppliers and agencies to develop marketing materials (e.g., design agencies, printers, videographers).
  • Accessibility standards: Solid working understanding of accessibility standards in Graphic Design (e.g., colour contrast, legible fonts, alt text for images).
  • Attention to detail: Ability to ensure high-quality, error-free work that meets the SANE brand’s standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Innovative thinking: Ability to bring innovative ideas to the table while maintaining brand integrity.

Highly desirable:

  • Experience in the mental health sector or working with not-for-profit organisations.
