The Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to creating a healthy, safe Tasmania free from sexual violence.

SASS services include specialised therapeutic support for survivors of sexual violence and their supporters, as well as primary prevention education and training for organisations, institutions, and communities. Together, we are building a future where respect and safety are at the centre of every Tasmanian community.

SASS is currently seeking an Intake/Brief Intervention Counsellor to join our team to be the first point of contact for clients and to be part of the implementation of our new Brief Intervention program. Working both at SASS offices and the newly established Arch centre, you will work collaboratively with service providers to provide timely, coordinated, trauma informed and tailored support to children, young people and adults affected by sexual harm.

We encourage you to apply for this role if you:

  • Have a minimum of two years professional experience working in crisis response and/or sexual assault counselling with understanding of associated issues 
  • Are a skilled clinician with a knowledge of, and experience in, a broad range of trauma informed therapies, having worked with people who have experienced trauma
  • Have a degree in counselling, psychology, social work with eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association (APS, AASW or PACFA)
  • Are able to coordinate and attend forensic medical examinations at the Royal Hobart Hospital and police statements at the Arch centre for recent sexual assaults, and support victim survivors through this process (note this role is 9-5 weekday position, not on-call)
  • Have a current National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People Card

This position will be permanent, with the hours available from a minimum of 3 days per week, up to 5 days per week (subject to funding). We are interested in understanding applicant’s preferred hours and days of week.
