Where you come in:

In this full-time, permanent position, based in Carlton* (or another location - we're flexible for the right candidate) you will help drive cultural and behavioural change to ensure all employees, volunteers, partners and representatives understand health and safety to be everyone's responsibility. Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, you will be a part of the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team, responsible for developing a fit-for-purpose WHS system, appropriate for the dynamic contexts in which we operate.

You will make an impact by:

  • Promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Increasing capability through targeted and flexible education and training
  • Monitoring regulatory and organisational changes, ensuring our WHS system remains current, compliant and effective
  • Providing technical support and advice across all levels of the organisation, including providing reporting to the Board
  • Overseeing the injury management and return to work specialist
  • Building internal networks to raise awareness and accountability for the management of WHS risks
  • Supporting in-Country health, safety and security specialists in complying to SCA, local regulations and donor requirements

Does this sound like you?

…You are an experienced WHS Practitioner with expert knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements.  You are pragmatic and demonstrate the necessary strategic and operational leadership and the technical know-how to establish and maintain a strong and safe workplace.

This role requires:

  • Significant experience designing, implementing and overseeing WHS strategies in challenging and dynamic contexts
  • Demonstrated technical skill, including experience implementing smart technology
  • A highly developed understanding of current Workplace Health & Safety legislation and industry standards in Australia (and ideally in international contexts)
  • A keen ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels and influence senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualification in applied Health and Wellbeing, or equivalent OHS certification

Position Description - Workplace Health & Safety Manager

*While COVID-19 social distancing restrictions are in place, this role works remotely (i.e. from home or an alternative location). Once the pandemic restrictions are lifted, the role will be based in our office in Carlton or, if an interstate candidate is appointed, an office proximate to their location.
