ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association, is the national peak body representing sex workers and sex worker organisations across the country. We advocate for sex worker rights, fighting for social, legal, political, cultural, health, and economic justice. Our work is built on principles of self-determination, peer leadership and community-driven advocacy.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Expert Advisor - Migration, you will play a critical role in supporting the CEO and our membership to address and advocate for the needs of Asian migrant sex workers, in collaboration with the Asian Migrant Sex Worker Advisory Group (AMSWAG). You will ensure that Scarlet Alliance remains at the forefront of migration policy, legislative developments, and the priorities of Asian migrant sex workers.

In this role you will:

  • Actively consult with and support AMSWAG
  • Monitor migration policy and legislative changes nationally and internationally
  • Provide timely, expert advice to the CEO and member organisations
  • Lead research and the development of policy positions and organisational responses
  • Engage and consult with Asian migrant sex workers to ensure their voices inform our strategies
  • Cultivate networks with key stakeholders and support media responses as required
  • Prepare reports, briefs, and discussion papers to inform internal decision-making

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO

  • Has lived experience as an Asian migrant sex worker within Australia
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of human rights and sex worker rights
  • Is knowledgeable about anti-trafficking, migration legislation, and policies impacting sex workers
  • Possesses excellent skills in policy consultation, research, analysis, and strategic thinking
  • Can work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and resolve complex issues
  • Maintains strong organisational, project management, and time-management skills
  • Is proficient with digital tools including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Exhibits exceptional communication skills and attention to detail
  • Is willing to travel interstate/intrastate as required

LOCATION & FLEXIBILITY

This role is based at our office on Gadigal Land (Newtown), but flexible work arrangements are available. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates from anywhere in unceded Australia. Some evening, weekend work, and interstate travel may be required (depending on your availability).

SALARY & CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT

This is a maximum term (to 30 June 2026) part-time position of 0.4 FTE (15 hours/week, 2 days/week) paid at the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Level 6 ($53.84 per hr) and subject to the National Employment Standards.
