ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION

Vixen is Victoria’s peer-only sex worker organisation and a member of Scarlet Alliance, the Australian Sex Workers Association. We are dedicated to promoting the cultural, legal, human, occupational, and civil rights of all sex workers. Please note that this is a peer position - which means you must be a current or former culturally and linguistically diverse sex worker.

Scarlet Alliance, the peak national body representing sex workers and sex worker organisations in Australia, auspices Vixen and supports its transition to operating as an autonomous sex worker organisation.

Vixen is looking for a new bilingual (Korean, Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese) Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Project Worker. The CALD Project Worker will work directly with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and migrant sex workers, providing bilingual and culturally appropriate peer education, support, advocacy, and referrals. This includes onsite services and outreach to uphold the organisation’s values.

This casual position will be offered roughly 7.5 hours of work per week, but may vary depending on organisation need and capacity. You will work within a team of five other project workers, including the current CALD Thai worker, plus the Vixen Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering peer education on safer sex practices within a health-promotion and harm-reduction framework.
  • Supporting CALD/migrant sex workers with information on health, legal rights, migration, taxation, employment, and other relevant issues.
  • Developing community engagement strategies to empower CALD/migrant sex workers and encourage their participation in policy and program development.
  • Contributing to culturally appropriate resources, including translated and visual materials.
  • Implementing outreach programs tailored to CALD/migrant sex workers in Victoria.
  • Maintaining accurate records.
  • Representing CALD/migrant sex workers in advocacy and consultation with external organisations and committees.
  • Complying with all legislative and workplace safety requirements, including child protection policies.

Please see the attached position description for a full list of duties and responsibilities.

You will join a team of other part-time outreach workers, and be supervised by the Vixen Manager.

Location

The position will work from the Vixen office in Brunswick, with regular outreach to culturally and linguistically diverse sex workers across Naarm. This position may include shifts regularly work outside of standard business hours when conducting outreach. Some regional Victorian travel may be required, as well as travel in Australia to attend meetings and conferences relevant to this role.

Salary and conditions of employment

This is a casual position, 7.5 hours/week, paid at the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 Social and Community Services Employee Level 4 .1 ($53.85 per hour) and subject to the National Employment Standards.

Salary sacrifice is available for this position.
