Role Overview

Sydney Community Foundation is seeking a dedicated and strategic Bequest and Structured Philanthropy Manager to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to grow both bequests and donor-advised sub funds as key contributors Sydney Community Foundation’s Permanent Fund. This role is ideal for a relationship-focused professional who thrives in donor engagement, legacy giving, structured philanthropy, and financial stewardship. Reporting to the CEO, the Bequest and Structured Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for increasing bequest commitments, expanding SCF’s donor-advised sub fund program, and cultivating relationships with professional advisors, tax experts, and estate lawyers to increase and facilitate structured giving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bequest and Structured Philanthropy Program Development & Execution
  • Design and implement a structured bequest program and donor-advised sub fund strategy to grow legacy gifts and the growth in number and value of sub-funds held at SCF.
  • Develop and execute strategies to promote bequests and sub fund establishment among existing and potential donors.
  • Establish effective stewardship programs to recognise and engage bequest and donor-advised sub fund donors.
  • Relationship Management & Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with high-net-worth individuals, professional advisors, tax experts, estate lawyers, and financial planners to facilitate bequests and donor-advised sub funds.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, events, and tailored communications to engage key stakeholders.
  • Provide support and guidance to individuals considering leaving a bequest or establishing a donor-advised sub fund with SCF.
  • Strategic Fundraising & Campaigns
  • Collaborate with SCF’s Marketing and Communications Manager to develop targeted messaging and promotional materials for bequest and donor-advised sub fund programs.
  • Work with the CEO and board members to integrate bequest and donor-advised sub fund fundraising into SCF’s broader fundraising and donor engagement strategy.
  • Monitor and report on bequest and donor-advised sub fund performance, ensuring goals and targets are met.
  • Communications & Advocacy
  • Develop compelling materials, donor impact stories, and legacy brochures to inspire potential bequest and donor-advised sub fund donors.
  • Advocate for SCF’s mission and funding priorities in conversations with donors and professional advisors.
  • Ensure best practices in ethical and transparent bequest and donor-advised sub fund fundraising.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Proven experience in bequest fundraising, donor-advised sub funds, legacy giving, or major donor development, preferably within the non-profit, philanthropic, or financial sectors.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, particularly professional advisors, tax experts, and estate lawyers.
  • Demonstrated success in securing bequests, planned gifts, and structured philanthropic investments.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify and act on legacy giving and donor-advised sub fund opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and donor communications.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Passion for social impact, community development, and philanthropy.
