The Opportunity

Are you passionate about children eating well and supporting school communities to thrive? We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Coordinator in the North West of Tasmania to join our team.

The Organisation

School Food Matters (SFM) is a not-for-profit, non-government, health promotion organisation providing state-wide support to Tasmanian schools to support the delivery of nutritious, affordable, safe, seasonal and local foods, to school children. School Food Matters is funded by the State Government to run a School Lunch Project designed to facilitate the provision of nutritious daily lunches to children within a total of 30 schools state-wide, over 2 years.

The Position:

The School Lunch Project NW Coordinator will be responsible for the delivery of the School Lunch Project within schools in their designated geographic region.

Remuneration

The position is governed under the conditions of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 and is aligned with Level 4, Grade 1, currently at the part time rate of $39.26 per hour plus superannuation at 10.5%.

The position will be 0.8 FTE for 12 months as aligned with the 4 term school year. There will be a three month probation period.

The position includes a car for travel related to carrying out the role. There will be travel throughout the north west and west coast of Tasmania.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • School support and relationship management skills to be able to liaise with school representatives, especially principals, school business managers, school community representatives and food service managers to assist them in delivering the School Lunch Project in their school.
  • Contribute to a positive food culture within schools through the development of School Food Plans.
  • Assist with documentation of the project through our data base, surveys, photographic documentation, reports, etc.
  • Media interviews and social media posts.
  • Ability to support schools to participate and problem solve in the School Lunch Project.
  • Contribute to menu development in collaboration with Public Health dieticians, SFM staff and the school community for the School Lunch Project.
  • Liaise with food supply organisations (facilitating ordering, storage and delivery) for the School Lunch Project.
  • Contribute to the School Lunch Project evaluation as part of the evaluation team.

Selection Criteria

  • Sound understanding of the school environment, SFM role in supporting schools to provide nutritious food and the reasons for feeding children well whilst at school.
  • Experience and understanding of health promotion principles and food safety principles.
  • Good knowledge of nutritional practices, based on the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) to encourage learning and engagement.
  • Current drivers licence and ability and willingness to undertake intrastate travel, possibly using own vehicle (transport costs will be reimbursed)
  • The ability to work from a home office.
