About the opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Research Fellow to join our Rainbow Inclusive Aged Care Project, improving care for gender and sexually diverse people in residential aged care. As a Research Fellow, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with LGBTQ+ communities and aged care organisations to co-create an inclusive model of care. This position offers a chance to make a meaningful impact to the lives of gender and sexually diverse older adults, ensuring they receive the respect, dignity, and support they deserve in aged care environments.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting mixed methods research with LGBTQ+ co-researchers in residential aged care settings in Brisbane and Perth, including observations, interviews and focus groups.
  • Facilitating online communities of practice, organisational summits and co-design workshops.
  • Leading and contributing to the development of academic papers to be submitted to high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

About you

You will have a history of productive relationships with LGBTQ+ communities and, ideally, experience working with older people or in the aged care sector. This will inform a practical understanding of the challenges and opportunities in providing inclusive care for gender and sexually diverse older adults. You will also have a strong background in qualitative or mixed methods research, including research involving consumer participation and/or co-design, meaning that you are well-equipped to engage in thorough, thoughtful research activities within residential aged care settings.

More specifically, you will have:

  • PhD or equivalent qualifications/work experience in a relevant field.
  • Skills in research data collection and analysis, including the use of software to manage data.
  • Established track record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and/or high-quality creative outputs.
  • Skills in leadership, project management, problem-solving, working both independently and collaboratively and meeting deadlines.

Salary and benefits

Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities.

This position is:

  • Part-time (80%), fixed term (4.5 years).
  • Located at Gold Coast (remote work options possible).
  • Academic Level B. Prorated, the base salary ranges from $84,275 - $99,688 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $116,611.
