About the role

The Business Manager is a key role, driving operational efficiency and performance excellence in this purpose-driven and collaborative environment. The Business Manager will ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the organisation by managing financial operations, compliance, and organisational systems and processes while ensuring they align with our goals and priorities.

The role will be responsible for financial management, including payroll, audit preparation, forecasting and financial reporting to meet organisational and regulatory requirements. It will also oversee operational processes, policies and registers relevant to the role, ensuring compliance and risk management are up-to-date and fit for purpose.

The role will support organisational change by driving process and system improvements that enable smooth operations and strengthen the overall employee experience, including well-being and engagement. It will also support business planning and project management initiatives to ensure alignment with organisational goals and priorities. Furthermore, the role will foster a collaborative and inclusive virtual team environment that values people, prioritises learning and development, and puts purpose at its core.

The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and has one team member reporting to the role. The base salary range for the role is $110,000 to $125,000, negotiable based on experience. For a 0.8 FTE position, the salary will be pro-rated accordingly.

About you

We’re looking for someone who meets the following essential criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading business operations, preferably in Australian companies and charities.
  • Working knowledge and experience managing finance, HR, risk and compliance, contract management, communications, and operational management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience improving systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency and support organisational change.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with experience engaging stakeholders, fostering team alignment, and providing briefings and reports to inform and advise key decision-makers.
  • High attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan, turn ideas into action, and adapt while doing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically dispersed team.
  • Commitment to contributing to a culture that values people, collaboration, and purpose.
  • Ability to lead in a way that is collaborative, values learning and development over being right, and puts purpose at its core.
  • Social enterprise sector knowledge is desirable.
