Energy Consumers Australia (ECA) is the independent, national voice for residential and small business consumers. It works with consumer groups and others to gather evidence to influence the shape of the nation’s energy system for the benefit of consumers and has already had a significant impact. But there is more to be done and ECA is positioned as a key player in engaging with governments, industry, the media and the community to influence and shape the future energy market.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a national, high-profile role that reports to the Board of ECA. The CEO will lead a talented and committed team to deliver campaigns and policy submissions advocating for strategic, high-impact policy change that enhances consumer agency and creates a transparent and fairer energy market. With ambitious plans to increase the impact and influence of ECA’s work, the CEO will lead the organisation tackling systemic consumer issues that make life hard for vulnerable people, whilst building support for policy change by broadening the energy stakeholder ecosystem.

There are a number of key projects underway within ECA that will continue to leverage the power of the consumer voice in driving sector change making this role diverse and impactful.

This is a job for a highly experienced policy thinker and thought leader, with a track record of influencing and shaping policy direction, innovation and implementation, with a deep understanding of the machinery of government and national energy market. You will need a relevant tertiary qualification, strong public policy skills and a passion for advancing the cause of consumer issues. To be a strong contender, you’ll have experience in leading organisations and inspiring staff, with rock-solid governance skills. With sophisticated communication skills, you’ll be able to build effective stakeholder relationships that enhance the profile and reputation of ECA, as well as the gravitas to speak persuasively with a wide variety of audiences, including Ministers, governments, business leaders and consumer groups.
