Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health globally, tackling mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Their Mission is to stop men dying too young. From their beginnings in 2003, Movember has grown to be truly global, with offices in Australia, United Kingdom/Ireland, United States, Canada and New Zealand, with over 6 million Mo Bros and Sisters throughout the world. In 2021 Movember raised over $135m to help save men’s lives, but there is still more that can be done. A Global Director, Policy and Advocacy position has been created to further the impact of Movember’s work influencing men’s health system reform.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Programs the Global Director, Policy and Advocacy will establish and lead a team (initially in Australia and Ireland) to develop, oversee, direct, and co-ordinate Movember’s advocacy and policy strategy globally to achieve their objectives. The Director will engage with a range of external stakeholders, including research and clinical partners, industry associations, corporates and governments across the globe to strengthen sectoral and partner connectedness and identify opportunities for unified advocacy and structural or system change. Internally, you will need to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, including marketing, research and policy specialists, governance committees and have the creativity to translate research, policy and analytics into actionable advocacy plans.

To be considered, you’ll need to have a passion for advancing the cause to address men’s health issues, a creative mind, and record of building policy communities in health (ideally in a few countries), and rock-solid governance skills. With a collaborative style, gravitas and sophisticated communication and influencing skills across a broad range of audiences, you’ll be equally as comfortable being strategic and hands-on, leading from the front whilst building and developing a team from scratch.

This is a job for a highly experienced policy thinker and inspirational leader, with a track record of influence, innovation and delivery, and a deep understanding of health issues globally. You’ll need the experience and bandwidth to appreciate policy and health system differences across geographical jurisdictions, with an ability to develop engagement and advocacy strategies that are targeted and fit for purpose whilst identifying themes that can be applied elsewhere. You’ll also have a sound understanding of the machinery of government and demonstrable success in influencing health policy change.
